Thokozani Langa is a renowned Maskandi musician hailing from Mahlabathini, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. Born on February 9, 1972, he has made significant contributions to the South African music scene, particularly within the traditional Maskandi genre. Langa‘s musical journey began in his youth, where he led a boys’ group that entertained villagers during festive occasions. Although initially aspiring to be an Mbaqanga artist, his admiration for Bhekumuzi Luthuli’s music inspired him to embrace Maskandi, a style that blends elements of both genres.

Career Highlights

Langa‘s career took off after signing with Bula Music in 2004, leading to the release of his third studio album, I-Protection Order, which won him the Best Maskandi Album award at the South African Music Awards (SAMA) in 2012. His earlier albums, Ipeni Nephepha (2005) and Lishonil’ Ilanga (2006), garnered nominations for Best Maskandi Album and Best Mbaqanga Album respectively. He has released over 23 studio albums, with his latest project titled Is’khiye Se-Coldroom, which showcases his unique style and musical evolution.
